12-year-old girl sexually assaulted in her Forestville apartment building

FORESTVILLE , Md. (WJLA) — A 12-year-old girl was sexually assaulted Wednesday morning in the hallway of her Forestville apartment building, police say.

Police say a man followed the girl onto the elevator inside her building. When the girl got off the elevator, the man forced her to the ground in the hallway, sexually assaulted her and then ran away.

The suspect is believed to be 17-22 years old with shoulder length dreadlocks and tattoos on his left forearm.

Prince George’s County Police are trying to identify and locate a man caught on surveillance video walking outside the building.

The man seen in the video seems to fit the description. He was wearing a white shirt and red ball cap and has a distinctive way of walking. Police believe someone will recognize the man in the video.

A man, who doesn’t want to be identified, says he lives in the apartment complex. He says with secure doors, cameras and security, it’s concerning someone was able to get into the building

“It really concerns me. We try to watch out for each other at all times and I’m really sorry it happened to the young lady,” he tells ABC7.

Police said they planned to be in the building and in the neighborhood handing out fliers, trying to get leads on who might have attacked the girl.

A reward of up to $25,000 is offered for information that might help in the case, police say.
